Our Promise to You

Purchase Agreement & Warranty

We stand behind every puppy we raise with a comprehensive 26-month health warranty and lifetime support.

Right of First Refusal — Returning Your Dog

We want your puppy to thrive in your home for many years to come. If circumstances ever change and you can no longer keep your Golden, please reach out to us before doing anything else. As the breeders, we hold first right of refusal on every dog we place.

  • You agree to notify us first if you can no longer keep the dog.
  • The buyer is responsible for any return or transport costs back to us.
  • Under no circumstances may the dog be released, surrendered, or rehomed through a shelter or rescue.

Health Warranty (26 Months)

Every Silver Butte puppy comes with a 26-month hereditary health warranty covering genetic and congenital conditions. This warranty begins on the date you pick up your puppy and extends through the full 26-month period.

What's covered: Hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, heart defects, eye defects, and other serious hereditary conditions diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian and confirmed by OFA or specialist examination.

OFA submission requirement: To maintain full warranty coverage, you must submit OFA preliminary hip and elbow x-rays between 12-18 months of age. We'll provide guidance on this process. Penn Hip evaluations are not accepted — AKC/OFA hip and elbow certifications are the only accepted documentation.

If a covered condition is diagnosed within the warranty period, we will provide a replacement puppy from the next available litter of equal or greater value.

Warranty Conditions

To keep your warranty valid, you agree to the following care standards:

  • No breeding before the 2nd birthday. Early breeding can mask genetic issues and voids the warranty.
  • No spaying or neutering before the 2nd birthday. Early spay/neuter increases the risk of joint issues. We recommend waiting until full skeletal maturity.
  • Give NuVet Plus K9 Wafers daily for the first two years of life. We send a starter pack home with every puppy. Daily dosing supports joint, immune, and overall developmental health through the warranty period.
  • Continue — do not restart — the vaccination schedule. Your puppy goes home with the appropriate dewormer and age-appropriate vaccinations already administered. Your vet should pick up where we left off. If the vaccination process is restarted from the beginning, the warranty and contract are void.
  • Provide proper nutrition and exercise. Feed high-quality food, avoid overfeeding, and provide age-appropriate exercise (no forced running or jumping until 18+ months).

If You Want to Keep Your Dog and Stay Covered

If a covered hereditary condition is diagnosed and you wish to keep your dog rather than return it, all of the following must be true for warranty coverage to apply:

  • The dog is owned by the original buyer named on the Bill of Sale.
  • The dog has not whelped or sired a litter.
  • The dog is under 26 months of age.
  • The dog has not been spayed or neutered before its 2nd birthday (written proof from your vet is required).

When all of these conditions are met, the buyer is entitled to another Silver Butte puppy at half the current purchase price from the next available litter.

Costs the Buyer Is Responsible For

Silver Butte does not pay vet fees, shipping or transport costs, OFA testing fees, or any other expenses associated with diagnosing, treating, returning, or replacing a dog under this warranty. These costs are the buyer's responsibility.

If a Health Issue Arises

We hope you never need to use this warranty, but if you do, here's what to do:

  1. Get a vet exam within 72 hours of pickup to establish a health baseline. Most issues present early and can be addressed quickly.
  2. Notify us as soon as possible if your vet suspects a hereditary defect. You can reach us by phone, email, or Facebook message — (208) 941-3035, ask.sbgoldens@gmail.com, or facebook.com/silver.butte.goldens.
  3. Submit OFA hip and elbow x-rays. AKC/OFA certification is the only accepted hip and elbow documentation. Penn Hip evaluations are not accepted.
  4. Submit supporting diagnostic records. A copy of the x-ray itself, and/or a written ophthalmologist eye exam report for eye-related claims, must be provided in addition to the OFA submission.
  5. Provide full vet documentation. Copies of vet records, diagnostic results, and any specialist reports should accompany your claim.
  6. Work with us. We may ask for a second opinion from a specialist we recommend. We want to ensure accurate diagnosis and the best outcome for your pup.

Replacement Policy

If a covered hereditary condition is confirmed, we will provide one replacement puppy from the next available litter (or a future litter of your choice, depending on availability).

To receive a replacement puppy, one of the following must occur:

  • The dog is returned to us in good health, or
  • The dog is humanely euthanized by a licensed veterinarian, with a written letter from that vet confirming the diagnosis and the procedure.

In either case, the full original purchase price is applied as a credit toward a puppy from the next available Silver Butte litter.

If you wish to keep your dog rather than return it, please see "If You Want to Keep Your Dog and Stay Covered" above — that path entitles you to another Silver Butte puppy at half the current purchase price when all conditions are met.

No cash refunds are provided — only replacement puppies or purchase credit. We stand behind our breeding program and want you to experience the joy of a healthy Silver Butte Golden.

What's NOT Covered

This warranty does not cover:

  • Accidents, injuries, or trauma (car accidents, falls, fights with other animals, etc.)
  • Illness caused by neglect, improper care, or failure to follow vaccination/preventative care
  • Parasites, viruses, or bacterial infections (parvo, kennel cough, worms, etc.)
  • Conditions caused by obesity, malnutrition, or environmental factors
  • Non-hereditary conditions (broken bones, torn ligaments from over-exercise, bloat, etc.)
  • Any condition arising from breeding or spaying/neutering before the 2nd birthday
  • Vet fees, shipping or transport costs, OFA testing fees, and other expenses associated with diagnosis, treatment, return, or replacement (these are the buyer's responsibility)

A note on hip and elbow dysplasia

Hip and elbow dysplasia in Goldens are strongly linked to over-exercising and poor nutrition during puppyhood — not just genetics. When a warranty claim involving hips or elbows is invoked, we will ask detailed questions about your dog's diet, exercise routine, and supplementation history. Answers that point to over-exercise, improper nutrition, or skipped supplementation may void parts of this warranty.

We're always here to answer questions and provide guidance, even for non-covered conditions. Your puppy's well-being matters to us.

AKC Registration

Limited AKC registration is included with every puppy. Your puppy is fully AKC-registered, but offspring cannot be registered (breeding restriction).

Full breeding rights are available after your dog reaches 2 years of age and passes health screenings:

  • OFA hips (Good or Excellent)
  • OFA elbows (Normal)
  • OFA cardiac (Normal)
  • OFA eyes (Clear)

Once you provide proof of these clearances, we'll lift the breeding restriction at no additional cost. We want to ensure only the healthiest Goldens contribute to the breed.
